Local councillor Ashleigh Mutimear-MacMillan has bought Hythe Pier, on Southampton Water in the UK.
The pier, which carries a narrow-guage railway - the oldest continuously operating public pier train in the world - is operated by Red Funnel, which has the communter ferry service. The pier itself was owned by the Hythe Pier Company. The pier is 700 yards long.
Ms Mutimear-MacMillan, a member of Hythe and Dibden Parish Council, has been an active fund-raiser on behalf of the pier and the Hythe Ferry that links Hythe with Southampton.
She now plans to raise more funds for the ongoing restoration of the pier and to restore the ferry service that was discontinued after a pontoon was damaged.
