A new visitor attraction using live theatre, VR and multi-sensory special effects to celebrate The Gunpowder Plot, is to opened next year opposite the Tower of London.

The Gunpowder Plot was an attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 and its failure is celebrated every year on November 5 with bonfires across the UK.
The audacious plan to blow up Parliament and kill King James I was devised to help restore a Catholic monarchy in Britain. It failed and the conspirators were executed. Since then, November 5 has been a day of thanksgiving.
The new attraction will be lodged in the Vaults, opposite the Tower, opening up buildings that have been closed to the public for over 20 years.
The experience is being brought to life by Historic Royal Palaces, the organisation that takes care of the Tower of London; and Layered Reality, a company that specialises in digital technology and live theatre.
