As Sega turns 60, InterGame’s resident retro pundit Dan Snook takes a misty-eyed look back at some of its notable moments.

THERE are many things that can make you feel old: kids growing up, struggling to tie your shoelaces without a sharp intake of breath, making that “getting up” noise whenever you rise from the sitting position, all modern music being just “noise” and a cherished brand like Sega celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Despite being a card-carrying game nerd, I didn’t realise that this milestone was approaching. So it came as something of a shock that a name that I can’t say without singing the “Seeegaaaaaaa” jingle (more of that in the Sega specifics box-out), a name that conjures a myriad of memories both from the arcade and the home, a name that makes me actually feel warm (yes, genuinely!) when I see it, is a princely 60 years old as of June 3 this year.
