Mike Gemson, the founder of Crown Leisure, the major UK distribution company, has died suddenly at the age of 75. Gemson, who died in the Forth Valley Hospital, near Preston, on October 14, founded Crown Leisure in 1976.

Under Gemson, Crown grew rapidly, entering arcade operations in addition to its primary role as a distributor for several leading makes of amusement and AWP machines. The company grew into a major player in the UK industry under his control.

Industry veteran Mick Blanche, who knew Mike Gemson well, commented: “Mike was always a fair and generous man, respected by all in the amusement industry. He spent much of his time using his skills and acumen working for the trade association, BACTA.”

Gemson leaves a partner, Cath, and two children, Sophia and Lloyd.

A funeral service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Penwortham, near Preston, Lancashire, on November 1 at 1030.
