The government of Macau is understood to have rejected SJM Holding's application to develop the same piece of land on Cotai that Sands China was previously denied.
As reported by Dow Jones Newswires, a source close to the process revealed the government made the ruling on basis that the operator’s plans to develop a casino on the land would need to be put out to public tender.
However, SJM, which is controlled by Stanley Ho, is expected to secure the rights to another plot of land in early 2011, the source said.
