The Commission of Economic Development, Industry and Commerce of the House of Representatives in Brazil has registered its approval of the legalisation of casinos in the country.
The issue will now be considered by various other commissions. The proposal approved by CEDIC would limit casinos to the north, north-east and central-west of the country and the revenue generated would be allocated to the health sector. There wold also be penalties for operators permitting problem gamblers to play.
Just six casinos would be allowed to open in Brazil, two in each of the allocated regions. The opening of any further casinos would be restricted for five years.
