Macau's casino gaming revenue rose 40 per cent in August, a slower rate of growth than the 70.4 per cent increase recorded a month earlier.
Figures from the enclave’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau revealed revenues rose to 15.77bn patacas ($1.97bn) in August, up from 11.27bn patacas in the corresponding month last year.
For the first seven months of the year, total revenues increased 63.2 per cent to 117.9bn patacas. May was the enclave’s strongest month, with revenue soaring 94.1 per cent to 17bn patacas.
The enclave’s largest operator, SJM, is predicting that 2010 will be a profitable year for the company, following the news that its profits increased by more than 350 per cent for the six months to June 30.
The company announced increases in gaming revenue, adjusted EBITDA and profit attributable to its owners of 79.3 per cent, 141.3 per cent and 363.6 per cent, respectively, compared with the same period last year.
