Leeds United Football Club has submitted an application to Leeds City Council for Elland Road to be the home of a 'new generation' gaming complex.

If successful, the casino would form part of a redeveloped John Charles West Stand. Club CEO Shaun Harvey said: The application would form part of a re-development of the West Stand which would improve facilities at Elland Road with an overall long-term aspiration of the stadium becoming a venue capable of staging world class events."

It is anticipated that stage one applications will be considered at a hearing in July. Stage two is expected to conclude in spring 2013.

The development would see an overall increase in the capacity of Elland Road football stadium.
