The Sigma Derby horse racing game is celebrating 10 years of continuous operation at The D Las Vegas.
The iconic horse racing coin-operated game is currently the only operational Sigma Derby game in the US. It was brought to the venue in 2012 when CEO and owner Derek Stevens transformed Fitzgerald’s Hotel & Casino into the D Las Vegas. He wanted a Sigma Derby because it was the first game he played in Las Vegas.
“I wanted to give the venue’s second floor a vintage feel,” he said. “I had a special place in my heart for the Sigma Derby and it was perfect for the vibe we were going for. It has a true fan following and I am proud that we have had the time effort and mechanics needed to keep those horses trotting for ten years.”
The first Sigma Derby was developed in 1985 by Japan’s Sigma Game Inc. It has five mechanical horses and demanded that players bet on the possible winner and second-place horse. They had randomly set odds for each race and the game cost 25 cents to play.
