Kyrgyzstan's Parliament has voted in favour of closing the country's casinos.
As previously reported by InterGaming, plans to ban casinos and other forms of gambling in Kyrgyzstan had been gaining momentum, with key parliamentary committees adopting a bill to introduce prohibition.
Since the closure of Russia’s casinos, neighbouring countries such as Kyrgyzstan have seen an increase in gambling activity. Now, concerns over the safety of the public have prompted lawmakers to push for a change in the law, with the country’s parliament passing a bill to limit gambling to a single designated zone. It is thought this is will be located near the border with Tajikistan.
Thousands of casino workers took to the streets to protest against the move, arguing that closing the gambling market will result in major job losses.
