Innovation is the key to the long-term success of the gaming industry, American Gaming Association president Frank Fahrenkopf said.
In an interview with InterGaming ahead of G2E Las Vegas, which opens at the Sands Expo Center today, Fahrenkopf explained that the US casino market "survived" the downturn but must now focus on delivering the kind of entertainment experiences consumers want.
New technology, such as that on display at G2E this week, will enable the industry to do just that, he said.
"One of the reasons we’ve come through since the fall of 2008 with the industry still on its feet was the use of technology and innovation and that is going to be the key to success in the future," Fahrenkopf said. "We’ve got to realise that people have more entertainment choices and are going to be more selective so we have to develop new ways to bring them into our properties and offer them an enjoyable entertainment experience to continue bringing them back.
"We’ve weathered the storm and we continue to hope that the US is going to come out of this recession and, as the recovery gets on track, we’ll continue to grow and be a major part of it."
