Sheldon Adelson’s Spanish casino project, Eurovegas, looks set to be located in either Barcelona or Madrid, despite a late bid from the province of Castellón.
Castellón announced its intention to bid for the multi-billion dollar project earlier this week, revealing plans to develop the casino complex at its Marina d’Or resort.
However, according to Europa Press, Las Vegas Sands thanked Castellón for its interest but said only Barcelona and Madrid are being considered.
Negotiations, company sources said, are nearly at their final stage.
Castellón’s political leaders are understood to be pressing ahead with the bid and are seeking a meeting with Las Vegas Sands’ officials.
Eurovegas is expected to bring six casinos housing 18,000 gaming machines to the country. It is also anticipated to create a 260,000 jobs. Given Spain’s precarious economic situation, it is understandably generating a great deal of interest from politicians.
