There are plans for a US$170m casino and hotel on the island of Saipan in the Northern Marianas.
JMSH, the owner of the Rota Resort and Country Club, said the casino project aims to attract visitors from China, Japan and Korea. Company president Hee Cho said in a recent news briefing that the project involves the construction of over 700 rooms to accommodate casino guests.
The project is divided into two phases, both within Rota Resort and Country Club's sprawling grounds. The resort currently houses a hotel, an 18-hole championship golf course, swimming pool, massage facility, two restaurants, laundry facility and nursery.
Phase one would involve building the first 200 rooms of the hotel and the actual casino with the initial gaming tables and slot machines, all for a price tag of $70m. Phase two would encompass the construction of 500 rooms at a cost of $100m.
