With Hurricane Sandy battering the east coast of the US yesterday, many casinos in the affected states closed completely or limited their services.

On Monday afternoon Atlantic City was entirely flooded and there was speculation that damage will be worse than the infamous 1962 storm. Neighboring Brigantine Island, where many casino employees live, has been shut down with no one allowed in or out and city police instructed residents to move furniture to first floors.
Tropicana Atlantic City CEO Tony Rodio estimated that the storm will cost the casino between $4.5m and $5m a day. In Delaware, all three casinos closed until further notice.
In Maryland, Ocean Downs and Penn National’s Hollywood Perryville closed. However, Maryland Live! remained open. In New York, Resorts World in New York City and Empire Resorts’ Big M in the Catskills closed. Harrah’s Philadelphia closed and in Rhode Island Newport Grand closed but the Twin River slot parlour remained open, but did not operate its simulcast.
