The UK Government's long-delayed announcement of the go-ahead for 16 new casino licences - eight large and eight small - was welcomed by British casino operator Aspers.
"We are pleased that we can finally proceed in conjunction with our various local partners to develop our wonderful new schemes," said Aspers chairman Damian Aspinall, who also noted that the government’s failure to progress the Manchester super-casino is a "missed opportunity."
Aspinall added: "We have exciting projects in a significant number of the short-listed local authority areas. Our urban entertainment complexes go far beyond the creation of a new casino and will deliver substantial community benefits as well as being popular with customers."
Among the publicly announced Aspers developments are projects in the Stratford City scheme in Newham, east London, and The Edge in Great Yarmouth. Several further Aspers schemes are well advanced but have not yet been publicly announced.
