News that the Las Vegas G2E show was to be moved to a new location and new dates in 2011 – released exclusively in this column last week – was confirmed at a press conference in the US on Tuesday.
The show, backed by the American Gaming Association and managed for it by Reed, has been held for several years at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Its 10th anniversary show, however, will move to the Sands Convention Center, a mile away. It will move from its November date to fresh dates, October 4-6. An earlier date was preferred by organisers and operators alike, but was unavailable at the LVCC.
AGA President Frank Fahrenkopf told the conference: “Historically, G2E has taken place in November, after many of our operating companies have submitted their annual budgets for the coming year. Those responsible for purchasing are forced to make decisions before they can assess new products and services offered at G2E.” He added that the shift in dates allowed more time between G2E and the January gaming show in London.”
He added that G2E Asia, held in Macau, will also move dates, but from 2012. It will now take place May 22-24, rather than in June. It will remain at the Venetian Macau. The South American show, SAGSE, managed by Monografie and also heavily influenced by the AGA, will similarly adjust its schedule, moving to a new mid-November date, November 9-11 from 2011.
