In the wake of technical issues arising from an online offer during the Cheltenham Festival, Coral has announced a series of changes to its Grand National promotions to address the anticipated increase in betting activity.

In a statement, the bookmaker said its £50 free-bet offer for all sports customers will be withdrawn from midnight on Wednesday, April 3, and reinstated from midnight on Saturday, April 6.

The statement continued: “The Cheltenham Festival was a problematic one for Coral. Despite some incredible offers and record-breaking levels of new and active players, technical issues arose after more than 50,000 lucky punters rushed to get their Sprinter Sacre cash immediately after the fourth race on the Wednesday.

“This pretty much knocked us out for the rest of the day. Although the site remained live for the most part with odds and content continuing to be displayed, it was the volume of connections into the cashier that did it for us.”

Following a review by Coral and Playtech, infrastructure has been upgraded and the bookmaker expects "to alleviate similar difficulties on Grand National Day.”

Coral has also introduced a series of new promotions for the Grand National, including a non-runner no-bet offer, price boosts to match or beat odds offered by industry rivals, plus additional daily offers and cashback options to be announced in the days before the race.
