Encouraged by similar developments in neighbouring countries, Cambodia is reportedly moving towards a decision to propose gambling reforms that would include online gaming.

Ros Phirun, spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s gaming and casino department, said in a statement: “We have thought about Vietnam legalising it. Gambling nowadays is a worldwide industry, not just in one country or two. "It is an international industry. So now we too have to internationalise the gambling industry. But in order to do that, we have to get the laws in Cambodia finished.”

Vietnam is quickly moving towards a similar decision in an effort to draw in gambling tourists and increase tax revenue. This raises the pressure on Cambodia to increase investigative and regulatory power over its underground online gambling industry.
