A judge has handed an 18-month sentence to Jordan Pendley, 18, for his role in a raid on a casino in West Bromwich, UK, during last summer’s riots.

Birmingham Crown Court heard how a group of masked robbers stormed Shaftesbury Casino in August 8 last year, smashing a window and making off with more than £10,000.

Pendley, who was only 17 at the time, left fingerprints on the casino reception desk but left without stealing any cash.

Sentencing him to 18 months in detention, Judge Murray Creed said: “The matter you were involved in was plainly a serious incident. I accept by your plea you weren’t involved in the actual robbery but, nevertheless, you are at the back of the group that went into those premises.

“This matter cannot be dealt with by anything other than a custodial sentence.”

Shaftesbury Casino spokesperson Sue Savage described the raid as a “terrifying ordeal” for both staff and customers. Police are continuing their investigation in an effort to identify the other gang members.
