The Illinois Senate has given the green light to the expansion of gaming in the US state.

Senators voted 31-20 in favour of a new casino in Chicago, four new riverboat casinos and the addition of slot machines at the state’s horse racing tracks. The state’s existing casinos will also be able to significantly increase the number of gambling positions they offer.

The bill must now pass through the House of Representatives where it is likely to encounter a great deal of opposition. State Governor Pat Quinn has also expressed concern about the expansion of gaming in such a way.
