Social games giant Zynga has confirmed that it has withdrawn its application for an online poker licence in Nevada.

The San Francisco-based company applied for a licence in late 2012 but stated in July of this year that it would not be targeting real-money gambling in the US, preferring instead to concentrate on the free-to-play social games that made the company a major player.
The move follows second quarter results that revealed a 31 per cent drop in year-on-year profits and net losses of $16m.
Zynga said in a statement in July 2013: “The company’s biggest opportunity is to focus on free-to-play social games.
“While the company continues to evaluate its real-money gaming products in the UK test, Zynga is making the focused choice not to pursue a licence for real-money gaming in the US.”
Zynga will still offer social poker on Facebook, alongside hit games including FarmVille, Frontierville and Mafia Wars.
