The Dutch gambling watchdog has issued a warning to a licensee after a violation of the ban on untargeted advertising was uncovered.

The regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), did not name the licensee in question but said its brand featured on the shirt of a football player as part of a television and social media advertisement.
The advert fell foul of recently introduced rules because it did not portray a “direct relationship” between the licensee, the sport and the place the sport takes place, such as a stadium, the KSA said.
However, the licensee has only been given a warning because it has “taken measures to prevent a recurrence of the violation.”
Non-targeted advertising for online gambling in public spaces and on television and the radio has been outlawed in the Netherlands amid an increased focus on protecting younger players.
The KSA noted it is “impossible to exclude vulnerable target groups, such as young adults,” with such promotions.
