Wolfsburg, which won the Bundesliga title for the first time in 2009, has become the last of the division’s 18 clubs to partner with a betting firm with the deal which will run for an initial two-and-a-half years until the end of the 2014/15 season.

Financial details for the agreement have not been revealed but it is understood to make Cashpoint, which is also a partner of second division side Hertha Berlin, a second-tier partner of VfL Wolfsburg and is believed to be worth around €2m per season.

Michael Wondra, chief executive of Cashpoint, said: "As part of the re-regulation of the German sports betting market, cooperation with VfL Wolfsburg gives us timely positioning in the most popular league in Germany."

Thomas Röttgermann, managing director of VfL Wolfsburg, added: "As a subsidiary of Gauselmann, Cashpoint stands for integrity and reliability, and also the group’s social commitment is absolutely exemplary."
