New polling in Sweden has shown support among players for outlawing Bonus Buy games in the igaming market.

The titles allow players to purchase their way into the bonus or free spins rounds of slots instead of playing their way to the extra content.

A Play’n Go poll in Sweden found that seven out of 10 people support changing the regulation to ban the games.

The Swedish company’s research also revealed that more than half of Swedish slot players want the game type to be prohibited.

Play’n Go CEO and co-founder Johan Törnqvist said his pledge in 2021 never to make a Bonus Buy game has “cost us hundreds of millions” of Swedish krona.

However, he said he stands by the decision, adding: “Bonus buy games are harmful to players, and to the long-term health and sustainability of the entire industry, and they should be excluded from the regulated Swedish market.”

Bonus Buy games have already been banned in the UK and the Netherlands.

The Play’n Go polling revealed that 61 per cent of people think the Swedish government following suit with its European counterparts is the “responsible thing to do.”

Nearly two-thirds of respondents believe Bonus Buy games result in higher losses for players, the polling said.
