Swedish gaming licence holders saw their sales fall only 4.1 per cent in the second quarter of the year, despite the impact of the pandemic, reports the Swedish gambling regulator.

Spelinspektionen

The gaming companies’ sales totalled SEK5.9bn (€568.8m). Spelinspektionen, the gambling authority, also revealed that 52,000 players were suspended from play through the Spelpaus.se programme.

A total of 99 companies held active licenses in the Swedish market by August of this year.

Spelinspektionen said that while there is no actual information on how much is played at gaming companies without a Swedish licence, the UK research company H2 Gambling Capital estimates that during the second quarter of the year a total of between SEK620m (€59.7m) and SEK732m (€70.5m) was played by Swedes outside of the Swedish licensing system.
