Sweden’s regulator is launching a media campaign to promote Spelpaus.se, a service that allows players to self-exclude from igaming activities.

The campaign will feature on TV for four weeks and will also be seen on several websites and on social media.

Sweden’s gaming market was re-regulated on January 1, 2019, with the aim of strengthening consumer protection. An important part was the introduction of the national suspension system Spelpaus.se.

Spelinspektionen communications manager Anders Sims said: “After just under a year, half of all players knew about Spelpaus.se. It's good, but not good enough. Anyone who loses control of their gambling, or for other reasons wants to avoid gambling, should know that there is a good tool at the Gaming Inspection.”

The awareness drive coincides with the Covid-19 pandemic, with the regulator commissioned by the Swedish government to “significantly increase the public's knowledge of the possibility of turning off games.”
