Sports betting has kicked off with a bang in New Jersey, with the Garden State’s three casinos and two racetracks accepting US$40.7m in wagers in the first full month of legalised action.

Figures released by New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement showed that the state’s sports books produced $3.8m in gross revenue across July, compared to $3.5m from $16.4m wagered in June.

Overall, since legalised sports betting commenced in New Jersey on June 14, over $57m in bets have been taken in.

July’s figures were in the main contributed to by the Borgata and Ocean Resort casinos and Monmouth Park and Meadowlands racetracks. The Golden Nugget begins taking sports bets today.
