UK-listed online sports betting and casino firm Sportingbet may close its Turkish-language website.
There is speculation that offloading its Turkish business, which has been a source of contention with the Turkish authorities, may pave the way for a takeover by Ladbrokes.
Sportingbet confirmed that it is undertaking a review to evaluate its “strategic options” regarding its Turkish website as part of its long-term strategy of increasing the proportion of its business mix taken from regulated markets.
“This review may lead to an exit from this business,” it said.
In June, the company’s board of directors revealed that it had received a preliminary approach from Ladbrokes.
