Slovakia’s online gambling market is to open in July 2019, after the decision was made by the country’s parliament.

The move, which leaves the Netherlands as an increased outlier within the EU, will see online betting and casino licences granted for 10 years. For a combined land-based and online casino license, the maximum licence period is five years with an option for an additional five years.

The cost of online licenses will be set at €3m for online betting and for online casinos, though if operators apply for both, the combined cost will be reduced to €5m. The tax rate for online operators will be 22 per cent of GGR.

Any operators who were issued with a blocking order under the old Gambling Act will remain blocked under the new licensing regime. Source: Gaming in Holland
