Italy’s premier football league, Serie A, has criticised new legislation banning advertising of online bookmakers.
The league currently has 12 of its teams sporting betting company logos on their shirts, resulting in huge sponsorship fees.
The news of the ban, covering all forms of advertising of gambling, was issued by the Italian authorities last week. In an official statement issued this week, Serie A disagreed with the decision and expressed "extreme concern." It compares the handicapping of the clubs with other teams in other countries that have no such ban.
Serie A also complains that the decision by the Council of Ministers only helps illegal gambling websites.
