Svenska Spel, Sweden’s state-owned operator, has announced a drop of six per cent in net gaming revenue for the opening quarter of 2019.

While there was growth within online sport and casino, lottery and land-based fared less well as group revenue dropped to SEK2.1bn (£167.5m) from SEK2.19bn the previous year.
Operating profit for the group for Q1 2019 stood at SEK519m (SEK1,143m), a drop of SEK624m of which SEK401m consists of game tax within a Swedish market that was re-regulated this year for private and foreign operators.
Svenska Spel’s Casino Cosmopol and Vegas dropped by 17 per cent to SEK416m and lottery fell six per cent to SEK1.1bn, but Svenska Spel Sport and Casino contributed SEK544m in revenues, a rise of four per cent year-on-year.
