The Dutch Government has set up a committee to look at online gaming with the possibility of reintroducing the law.
Talking to InterGaming recently, the secretary of the executive board at Holland Casino, Ron Goudsmit, said that he believes the legalisation of online gaming could enhance the land-based business rather than threaten it. "It’s a good add-on to the product," he said. "It works well to have both sides; online and land-based."
The committee will be reporting back in March and Goudsmit added that he is confident the law will be passed eventually, arguing that the government did not have a negative attitude towards the internet the last time the law was up for debate. "It had a lot to do with what was going on politically in the Netherlands. We’re pretty confident that it will go through when the committee completes its work."
