South America has seen two major advances in online gambling and sports betting opportunities.

Peru last week announced the regulatory framework for the operation of online gambling and sports betting. President Pedro Castillo Terrones (pictured) called on local and foreign operating companies to register with the authorities so that they could pay the appropriate taxes.
A tax of 12 per cent has been set on the net win of gambling, it was announced.
Simultaneously, Uruguay has approved the online gambling regulation before the Finance Commission of the Chamber of Senators. It now goes to the Chamber of Deputies for debate before it heads back to the Senate for a final decision.
