North Carolina generated US$66.5m in gross sports betting revenue in the US state’s first few weeks of regulated operations.

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission reported handle of $659.3m between March 11 and the end of the month.

North Carolinians won $590.8m, the regulator said, with the state putting into law an 18 per cent tax rate.

Of the total handle, $456.7m was through standard wagers, with a further $202.6m coming from promotions, The North Carolina State Lottery Commission also reported.

There was also $2.1m in cancelled or voided wagers.
