Figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board showed that fantasy sports contests in the state generated US$2.13m in September – a rise of a whopping 126 per cent on the previous month.

The bump in the latest figure – of which $0.32m was taken in tax – coincides with the opening of the NFL season, which the PGCB stated “impacted the revenue growth substantially”. August’s revenue was $0.944m.

Tax revenue is derived from a 15 per cent assessment on operators’ adjusted revenue and deposited into the commonwealth general fund.

DraftKings’ fantasy sports adjusted revenue for September 2018 led the way on $1.174m, with FanDuel close behind on $0.949m.
