Two years after voting to legalise sports betting in the state, residents of Maryland, US, will soon be able to place bets on their mobile phones.

This week the state’s Sports Wagering Application Review Commission said that the awarding of online sports betting licences will begin on November 21 with the announcement of the successful operators.
Sports betting will be expected to start very shortly after that. Last month the commission decided to permit rolling approval of licences instead of setting an overall start-date for all sportsbooks.
Licence applications have to be in by today (October 21) and it can take up to 45 days to make a decision on each application.
The state has permitted in-person betting since December of last year and the seven sports betting venues have brought the state over $477,000 in tax revenues in August alone.
