It forecast that the first online bets would be made by Thanksgiving, which is November 23, using 10 licensed companies.

Governor Larry Hogan said this week: “To reach this point, we have had to overcome countless legal, political and bureaucratic delays that threatened to push back the launch pas the Super Bowl next year.

"It was completely unacceptable to me and we spent months pressing for decisive action. Thanks to those efforts and after repeated interventions by our administration we now anticipate the launch of mobile sports betting this month.”

The 10 locations in Maryland include some big names, such as Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings and BetMGM. The state already has in-person sports betting in some of its casinos.
