The Dutch Gaming Authority is aiming for the Remote Gaming Act to enter into force on July 1, 2020, with licence applications processed from that point to allow for online gambling to open at the start of the following year.

René Jansen, chairman of the KSA, told the Gaming in Holland Conference that managing the licensing process within the framework of the Gaming Act on Remote Games is a priority over the next two years.

The Remote Gaming Act, adopted by the First Chamber on February 19, 2019, legalises online games of chance under strict conditions. Under current legislation, it is not possible to request a license for offering online games of chance, but this will change with the new law.

The Ministry of Justice and Security is currently implementing the law in so-called lower regulations. If it is ready, the KSA can then set up permit conditions.

"Such an operation requires a lot from an organisation with the size of the KSA," Jansen said. “But we do everything we can to get this done.”

Jansen called on his audience to complete an application form on the KSA’s website to indicate interest in a licence.

“For the KSA, it is important to know how many license applications we can expect in the future,” he added. “This allows us to organise the organisation well. We have an interest in this, but that also applies to the companies that request a license.”
