Kindred Group has been fined SEK100m (£8.2m) by Sweden’s gaming regulator for breached bonusing rules.
The fine relates to the company’s Spooniker subsidiary, which has been issued with a warning and the financial penalty for offering customers financial incentives in early 2019 considered to be “incompatible” with the country’s legislation.
The decision of the regulator was that part of Spoonikers offers, contests and promotions are considered financial incentives and thus as bonuses. To offer these was considered incompatible with the country’s legislation.
Kindred stated that it is to appeal the decision, with a view to obtaining legal guidance on how the legislation should be interpreted. The company stated: “Kindred believes that the new gaming legislation adopted on January 1, 2019 is unclear in areas related to commercial activities and thus has created unnecessary obscurity.
“Kindred welcomes increased clarity on these issues and is constantly working to improve its operations to ensure full compliance.”
Kindred operates five gaming brands in Sweden: Unibet, Maria Casino, iGame, Bingo.com and Big Players.
