Kenya’s parliament has moved to roll back punitive tax measures for gambling operators, according to Business Daily Africa.

The country’s Finance and National Planning Committee has proposed cutting operators’ revenue tax rate from 35 per cent to 15 per cent, while also halving the current 20 per cent tax on gambling winnings.

Controversial rules in place since January 1 this year saw previous rates of 7.5 per cent soar to 35 per cent on all gambling products, leading to gambling companies suspending their operations within Kenya.

The Treasury is seeking to transfer some of the tax burden on to customers, who are set to pay 10 per cent of their winnings to the taxman.
