The regulated sports betting market in Italy has posted revenue growth of 22.6 per cent year-on-year to €1.6bn in 2018, according to reports locally.

Research firm Eilers and Krejcik has estimated that €640m came through online sports betting – a rise of 16 per cent year-on-year – and €950m through the land-based sector, up 23 per cent compared to 2017’s figure. The land-based sector also benefited from turnover growth and a margin of 17 per cent.

Online sports betting posted a margin of 10 per cent for the year, with turnover at €6.4bn, up 14 per cent.

The wider Italian online gambling market posted revenue growth of 17 per cent, with online casino growth of 25.4 per cent to reach €711m. That compensated for a 3.7 per cent fall in online poker revenues to €147m, for a total market size of €1.5bn from the core sports betting, poker and casino verticals.
