The online gambling market in Italy, already the largest in Europe, is about to receive a €400m boost.

A new law passed last week enables operators already licensed in the market to offer cash poker and casino games. These games will be subject to a gross profits tax of 20 per cent and there will by a maximum buy-in of €250. Also, a minimum of 90 per cent of the amount collected will be paid out to players.

It is hoped that licences will be approved within the next few weeks. The Italian regulatory body, AAMS, is expected to publish details on its website today outlining the requirements operators would need to meet to attain certification of their games and gaming platforms.
