Igaming test lab eCOGRA made its voice heard regarding the impending Irish gambling regulations at the One-Zero conference.

Head of marketing Sarah Curran moderated a panel on the regulations, which were discussed as part of the Dublin event’s expansion to cover the betting and gaming industries.

Also on the panel were PointsBet FBG’s head of operations in Europe, Graham Ross, and Martina Cilia, manager of international affairs and policy strategy for the Malta Gaming Authority.

The key takeaways from the discussion included the endorsement by a wide range of stakeholders for the need for a robust regulatory framework in Ireland.

However, concerns remain around aspects of the draft legislation regarding the feasibility to deliver operationally.

The panel also discussed how the revenue opportunity for the Irish economy is substantial, but player care is a priority.

The data around key issues such as problem gambling will be much more accurate once there is a regulator in place with a consistent research approach over a prolonged period of time, the debate concluded.

ECOGRA’s participation in the discussion came after it last week revealed a partnership with Mindway AI and CasinoReviews.net to launch a campaign for Problem Gambling Awareness Month.

The Bet on Awareness campaign utilises data from Mindway’s Gamalyze player protection software. The three companies will conduct a comprehensive study offering insights into gambling habits and trends in 2024, shedding light on key aspects of player behaviour.

Douwe Bijkersma, chief delivery officer at eCOGRA, said: “Gamalyze is an innovative tool which allows players to self-test their gambling behaviour and risk profile, a revolutionary concept which we believe will benefit not only the players but the wider igaming industry."

Mindway AI CEO Rasmus Kjaergaard added: “I am truly excited about the collaboration between Mindway AI, CasinoReviews.net, and eCOGRA in championing responsible gambling during Problem Gambling Awareness Month."
