Land-based casinos often see online and remote gambling as competition, without realising that they can in fact use it to their advantage.

Spin3, a specialist in mobile gaming, is one company that is making this possible. A division of Spiral Solutions and a partner of online gambling’s biggest software provider, Microgaming, Spin3 is a leading developer of online gaming solutions, providing turnkey solutions for the mobile gaming arena.

The company has moved quickly. "Four and a half years ago we realised that the mobile phone side of gaming had huge growth potential due to the high number of handsets out there," said Spin3 chief Matti Zinder in an interview with iNTERGAMINGi.

"We also realised that a mobile platform would require long-term investment. We aimed from the start to be the leader in the field, so our exclusive deal with Microgaming was key."

The initial application was launched in January 2005 with Ladbrokes and since then Spin3 has introduced three generations of product and 14 different types of game.

"We now support thousands of handsets and the recent introduction of the iPhone has taken things to a different level," said Zinder. "Mobile web devices will also aid the growth of this sector."

Spin3, which now has more than 200 employees, provides software and a range of services. It has also created a billing solution with Vodafone through which customers are billed directly.

"We are now ready for the next wave," said Zinder. "Our clients are achieving ever-increasing revenues and the new generation of handsets is making more things possible. Now mobile gaming is very much like internet gaming because there are more and more phones with browsing capabilities.

Spin3 has a package targeted at land-based operators. "They can have an expanded offering in the mobile field. Customers of land-based casinos can continue to play on their mobiles when they are not at the casino. This adds huge value to the land-based brand.

"We have been in discussion with a lot of land-based casinos, especially in Asia. There will continue to be massive growth in this sector, particularly with the economic downturn. People are looking to gamble cheaper."
