The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes of Oklahoma have settled an ongoing dispute with the state by removing an internet gaming site which, the governor's office said, is not permitted under the terms of its tribal gaming compact.
“We want it to be very clear that Oklahoma is saying you may not internet game in Oklahoma,” said Steve Mullins, Governor Mary Fallin's general counsel.
The tribe, based in Concho, had been running the site for several months with tribal officials believing internet gaming was permitted under the compact.
Mullins said an agreement was reached on Friday, April 5. “It was a misunderstanding,” he said. “They came to the table, and they worked with us until we could get it resolved. They've been good partners on that.”
The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes would be allowed to operate a site from outside the US but would still be required to pay fees to Oklahoma, added Mullins.
