Social betting site BuddyBet launches today, offering sports fans a unique betting product with direct head-to-head challenges.

The product breaks the traditional mould of betting by encouraging users to place bets against other members around the world at any time, based on a range of events and for varying stakes.

The platform allows for various challenges to be shared across social networks, offering photo, video and chat option as it tracks users’ successes and failures against each other. Today’s launch focuses on the site, which is targeted at the UK and Irish markets, while the mobile application is scheduled for release later this year.

Members will be able to send bets directly to one another, take advantage of odds in the open public betting exchange and issue bet challenges by embedding links into online arguments in fan forums across the internet. The site will also soon include pool betting and fully-customisable direct betting options for users to tailor their bets in ways not possible on other sites.

Jarrod Epps, BuddyBet CEO, commented: “Despite what others consider to be strong industry growth, our research shows traditional bookmaking is losing its appeal and we believe the industry is walled off from the desires of the general public. Online betting systems are dated and they are too technical, complicated and intimidating for the average sports fan or would-be social/casual punter.

“Our viral, sticky approach to online betting is completely different from anything previously available and our revolutionary social community offers members the perfect opportunity to challenge foes and trash-talkers in a way that will change the face of the industry, making betting fun again.”
