Police in Vietnam have smashed an online betting ring thought to have been worth about $26m, arresting four people, local media reports.

Illegal gambling on football is expected to surge during the FIFA World Cup tournament, despite widespread efforts by authorities to stamp out the practice.

The four were arrested in Ho Chi Minh City and admitted to operating transactions through a website hosted in the Philippines. Most of those arrested will face suspended sentences and a small fine, police said.
