The International Betting Integrity Association is to focus more of its efforts on Portugal through a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Portuguese online betting and gambling association.
The two associations will discuss areas of cooperation and potential shared projects, including promoting a viable regulated sports betting market in Portugal.
Consumer, sports and operator integrity protection measures will also be on the partnership’s agenda.
Khalid Ali, CEO of the IBIA, said Portugal is an “important market” for IBIA members and that the agreement with the regulator will look to “establish and maintain” a “dynamic, competitive and well regulated” Portuguese betting market that tackles the illegal market.
Ricardo Domingues, president of the executive committee of APAJO, added: “APAJO is strongly invested in building and maintaining the most beneficial environment for Portuguese consumers and operators, and sports integrity is definitively a very important part of this overarching goal.”
