The last quarterly In-Play Tracker (IPT) survey for 2012 recorded an explosion of activity as the European football season got under way.
The IPT recorded the busiest Saturday ever on September 22, with nearly 700 events being logged, beating the previous record set in March. Bet365 topped the survey for the fourth consecutive time with 778 events captured during the 14 betting windows, also boasting the most sports offered (23).
Ladbrokes was a comfortable second with a total of 603 events while bwin and William Hill placed third and fourth with 567 and 547 respectively. William Hill continued to offer the most markets, leading the way with an average of 56.3 markets per event.
Football dominated the in-play offerings of the 11 sites tracked by the survey, accounting for 74 per cent of total events. Tennis was the second most popular sport once again with 13 per cent, followed by basketball and ice hockey, both with three per cent.
Within soccer markets, Ladbrokes narrowly beat bet365 with 474 games logged against 466. Bwin placed third with 426. Unibet, meanwhile, saw a more than 100 per cent increase in football, to 331 events.
