The European Betting and Gaming Association is to present its first cross-European guidelines for anti-money laundering.

EGBA

The guidelines contain practical, sector-specific guidance for online gambling operators on topics such as customer and business risk assessments and suspicious transaction reporting.

The EGBA says it is applying a risk-based approach and is aiming to support compliance with the EU’s upcoming AML Regulation.

Dr Ekaterina Hartmann, director of legal and regulatory affairs at the EGBA, said: “There’s currently a lack of sector-specific guidance to help Europe’s online gambling operators in their AML compliance efforts and these guidelines provide a valuable tool to fill this gap and help operators achieve the highest possible standards.”

The guidelines come after the EGBA’s consultation period last autumn, where the trade association invited feedback from a range of industry stakeholders.
